through his labour power, creates the very self same capital which exploits and persecutes him, Socialist Labour League national secretary Gerry Healy told a 600-strong audience in London on Sunday.
Giving the second in a series of three lectures on Marxism, comrade Healy said man was engaged in a struggle against nature, but was prevented from getting down to the real fight by the capitalist on his back.
'Man cannot solve one major problem today unless he makes ism always was and always 'Man is trained within capitalism in how not to look at the real movement and change, which is material reality itself.
'When we look at the movement of events between the past and the present we are grappling in a dialectical way with contradictions.
'Thoughts are not so much our thoughts as the product of matter in motion. In order to become conscious of essence one must relate our thoughts to the source, which is the capitalist system and the class "The history of capitalist production is the extraction of surplus value for reconversion into money and then capital which is used for the extraction of more surplus value.
"The capitalist buys labour power for wages which are Irish nurses: Withdraw troops determined by the average amount necessary to keep the labourer going from week to week and procreate more labour.
'The value of a commodity produced by a worker exceeds what the capitalist pays him— this surplus value now stands hostile to the worker.
'When he goes home the worker leaves behind in the factory the products he has created during the day. These products now contain objectified labour which is hostile to the worker.' Comrade Healy explained that surplus value consisted of the being and non-being of the worker.
The value of the products he makes when converted into money is divided between himin the form of wages (being) and the boss in the form of variable capital for Gerry Healy future investment (non-being).
Thus, he said, 'the worker creates through his labour the very self-same capital which exploits and persecutes him'.
