The Newsletter, 1957–1966
The weekly paper of the Trotskyist group around Gerry Healy, which became the Socialist Labour League in 1959; Workers Press replaced it in September 1969. Peter Fryer founded it in May 1957, after resigning from the Daily Worker and the Communist Party over Hungary, and its first years are the paper of those who left the CP in 1956–57. 343 issues and specials, 10 May 1957 to 31 December 1966: about 3.2 million words of machine-read text, split into 4,944 articles, each issue linked to its scan.
The text is uncorrected OCR: good for finding things, not for quoting. The Encyclopedia of Trotskyism On-Line holds almost nothing for 1961 and 1963, nothing for October–November 1960, and nothing from 1967 until Workers Press began in September 1969. If you have issues from those years, or scans or PDFs of them, please send them to [email protected], saying which issues they are.
