PLESSEY workers at Alexandria, Dunbartonshire, have unanimously rejected a 'peace' formula offered by the company to end the 15-week occupation of their factory.
This means the men will continue their determined fight for the right to work. Yesterday top Plessey officials were flying N to 'view the situation'.
Alexandria convenor Eddie McLafferty said yesterday that they had . turned dewr thc Plessey offer to promote the factory site as an industrial estate because there were no safeguards for the men.
factory uners promised were found. But they would not accept this,' said Eddie.
He said this would have been an act of faith by the company:
'We were not going to end our occupation on the basis of vague promise of employment-and very vague promises at that, he said.
The whole labour movement is in debt to the Plessey men and the fight they have put up to defend a basic working-class right.
Their refusal to back down before the company may now bring the Alexandria hattle to a head.
Plessey are known to be anxious to repatriate the stocks in the plant. More than ever the Alexandria men need the backing of the whole trade union movement.
