SW4 7UG. PHILIP WADE IN LIVERPOOL If, as expected, the dockers maintain their black, Heatons will almost certainly initiate further contempt proceedings in the National Industrial Relations Court in London.
One dangerous escalation in the dispute could be court action against Merseyside shop Decks Leaders I spoke to at theres were mad were made. hat if any against "individual dockers, there • would be an immediate mass walk-out.
In yesterday's capitalist press there was speculation that future fines against the Transport and General Workers' Union would be drastically' higher than the €5.000 already imposed.
The £5,000 contempt-of-court day after T&GWO perused to attend court to explain why it should not pay.
Their boycott ef the court is in compliance with the TUC policy not to co-operate with the Industrial Relations Act. The union now has three weeks to pay before its assets are seized. • At the same time, the order against the blacking was made permanent.
But further action against the union was deferred to see if a negotiated settlement could be reached. • Doug Farrar. Manchesterbased T&GWU regional secretary, hastened to Liverpool and convened talks for Friday evening. These only lasted ten minutes.
Heatons demanded the lifting of the black and a return to the stalus quo before talks could begin. The dockers refused point-blank and Heatons walked out.
Liverpeel deck leaders are sticking to their criginal position the blacking will not be called off until the firm signs the agreement declaring loading and unloading of containers to * be dockers' work.
