MessaI Hapys has played a great role in the building up of the Algerian national movement. A dangerous man to several French régimes, he has spent many elections under the shadow of the paratroopers’ helicopters. Such -criticisms only increase his value.

Messali’s teeth have been drawn. After stoutly bearing himself in decades of struggle, after a life of hardship, uncertainty and dedication to his people he ends as a- living shadow, a ‘beni-oui-oui’, first class —— This breaking and humiliating of a once imposing leader . is One more crime that the Algerian people will have to lay at the doorstep of French imperialism.
